Hundreds attend European Staff Celebration Event  #WeAreUoN
More than 200 colleagues and their families from across Europe joined the Vice-Chancellor and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor at yesterday's European Staff Celebration Event — celebrating the enormous contribution our European colleagues make to the University, to Nottingham and to the UK.

The University is continuing important practical measures including contingency planning for a 'No Deal' Brexit scenario. Information on this fast-moving situation will be provided through our Brexit webpage.
University Strategy Green Paper  consultation and staff events
All colleagues are reminded that they can take part in a consultation and 'town hall' events to discuss a Green Paper that will support the new University Strategy. The first event will take part on Friday 22 March at Sutton Bonington, with the second taking place on Wednesday 10 April at Jubilee Campus. Views and comments can also be submitted online via the New University Strategy webpage. Responses will be used to produce a final draft strategy, which will be made available for further consideration across our community, before being put to the University Council in December.
Staff and student travel survey
The University of Nottingham has launched its travel survey to understand more about how you travel to, from and between University sites, so that we can help to improve your journeys. Tell us about your travel and be in with the chance of winning a £50 gift card.
Staff EDI guides
An EDI guide for Personal Tutors has been developed to support the equality of opportunity for all of our students. We recognise that the relationship between students and their personal tutors is an important one, and integral to their wellbeing and academic success during their time at university. This guide is intended to offer some helpful pointers and things to consider while you are supporting students from a wide variety of backgrounds. You can read the guide by following the link below — and find out more in the latest blog from Professor Sarah Sharples, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
USS pension  March 2019 valuation  consultation responses
Following the March 2019 valuation of the USS pension, the University has responded to the latest employer consultation by Universities UK. The response confirms that the University would accept an increase in employer contributions, as well as contingent contributions if necessary, to resolve the latest valuation.
Celebrate Nottingham's women by naming new building
Staff and students are being invited to help name a new, state of the art building on University Park. The Teaching and Learning Building will bear the name of a woman who has made a significant contribution to teaching, learning or research.
Students go digital as new technology transforms teaching
To prompt greater collaboration and new ways of working for students, the Teaching and Learning Building has been fitted with 38 Microsoft Surface Hubs. The hubs include cutting edge interactive whiteboards that enable connecting, collaborating, curating content, sharing and recording of work.
New Commercial Director appointed
Dr Lisa Carroll will join the University of Nottingham as its new Commercial Director on Monday 15 April to lead the strategic development of the University's commercial activities.
Stay on track with the latest rail travel and expenses updates
Improvements are in the pipeline for University of Nottingham colleagues who use the Business Travel and Expenses workspace to book train journeys. The key changes will mean that users will no longer have to 'pay and claim' as they have previously. Instead, a booking can be made using just a project code and a file will be passed into the finance system by the Travel and Expenses Team.
Emergency information and procedures
In light of the tragic incidents in New Zealand and the Netherlands recently, staff are reminded to familiarise themselves with the University's Emergency Information and Procedures, which cover personal safety as well as information on what to do in the event of fire, ill health or other incidents on campus.
Changing whilst you change
In her final blog in a Leadership and Management (LMA) series looking at change management, Jaspal Kaur, Director of HR, explores the need to view change as a dynamic and discursive process that requires flexibility, adaptability and empathy to succeed.

Event of the week BUCS Big Wednesday
The pinnacle of the university team sports programme, British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Big Wednesday, is heading to Nottingham on Wednesday 27 March. The University of Nottingham has 16 finalists confirmed this year, with only one more semi-final to go to see if this record number will be set any higher. During the event next week, we'll be hosting more than 50 BUCS Championship and Trophy Finals.
And finally...
The University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science has unveiled ambitious plans to dramatically increase its student numbers by moving to a two-intake system in the next academic year. The expansion will see 150 undergraduate students starting at the school in September this year, followed by a further 150 beginning their courses in April 2020.
