Campus update
Campus Update is a fortnightly all-staff email keeping you up to date with news from around the University. Here, you'll find important messages for staff, as well as some highlights from our community and events.
USS Pensions: University supports JEP recommendations
The University has responded to the UUK employer consultation to confirm it supports the Joint Expert Panel recommendations on the USS 2017 valuation, and would accept an increase in employer contributions from 18% to 20.1% of salary. In preparing its response, the University has sought the views of our staff, Executive Board and Council. 
The Vice-Chancellor's blog  October 2018
The Vice-Chancellor has published her latest staff blog, in which she reflects on the role of Vice-Chancellors and opens applications for the next round of the VC's Mentoring Scheme and VC Surgeries.
Week of Wellbeing: full programme available
All staff are invited to get involved in our Week of Wellbeing, which takes place Monday 12 November-Friday 16 November. Throughout the week, you'll have the opportunity to participate in a range of wellbeing activities and events taking place across our UK campuses. Booking is required for some events.
Brighten up — be safe when cycling
Our annual 'Brighten Up' campaign is now under way, reminding staff and students to be safe and seen when cycling in autumn and winter. Bike lights must be used on campus, public roads and cycle paths between sunset and sunrise, and fines of up to £150 can be issued if this isn't observed. We've published a poster advising on what lights are required by law: take a look at the Brighten Up webpage for more information or watch Ridewise's safe winter cycling video for advice on staying visible. if you would like to buy lights on campus, you'll find them for sale at the SU shop, University Park.

Discover the facilities in the Teaching and Learning Building
On Wednesday 7 November we're hosting a day of events to help staff become familiar with the technology in the new Teaching and Learning Building. The building, which opened at the start of this academic session, has over 20 flexible learning spaces with new AV/IT facilities that provide greater opportunity for collaboration and interactive learning.
University of Nottingham to host the National Windrush Conference
The National Windrush Conference will be hosted at the University of Nottingham on Saturday 17 November. Featuring eminent national and local speakers, plus a panel and Q&A session, the event will encourage thinking and action on the scandal and the treatment of the Windrush generation.

University of Nottingham honours inspirational volunteers
The outstanding voluntary efforts of a number of alumni and residents have been recognised at our annual Supporter Reception. More than 360 alumni and residents have contributed time over the last year, with nine individuals or groups recognised in the awards.
Shortlist announced for Knowledge Exchange and Impact Awards
Over 80 entries were submitted to this year's Knowledge Exchange and Impact Awards, which celebrate the contribution of our University's research to society and the economy. A shortlist has been selected by judging panels across the University and the winners will be announced on Thursday 22 November.
Edith Prak to become University's new Director of Advancement
As our new Director of Advancement, Edith will lead the Campaign and Alumni Relations Office to encourage philanthropic donations through major gifts, annual giving and legacy giving. She will also lead communications and engagement with our community of alumni across the globe.
Engineering's new AVPC for research
Professor Christopher Tuck has been appointed as Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange, Faculty of Engineering.
Teaching and Learning Conference: save the date
The next annual Teaching and Learning Conference, aimed at staff and PGR students, will take place on Thursday 2 May (PM) - Friday 3 May 2019. The theme is Universal Design: meeting the challenges of teaching and learning in 21st Century Higher Education.
Event of the Week  Lustre 2018
An eagerly anticipated landmark on Nottingham's arts calendar, Lustre is a friendly, relaxed contemporary craft and design fair. Work will be available to buy or commission from over 80 of the UK's finest established and emerging designers/makers, who will be on hand to talk to visitors about the ideas and techniques behind their practice.

At 11am on 11 November 1918 the guns fell silent and the First World War was declared over. A century on, stories of key figures at the University of Nottingham are set to be brought to life through a series of articles published on a new website...
